Service Opportunities
Service opportunities will be posted here as they become available, as well as on Google Classroom. Please note that opportunities may be limited as a result of COVID-19.
ALL NHS MEMBERS ARE REQUIRED TO COMPLETE AT LEAST 30 HOURS OF SERVICE

*At least 10 of these hours must come from NHS-sponsored activities (examples to follow).
*At least 20 of these hours must come from non-NHS sponsored activities (honor societies, extracurriculars, NGOs, etc.).
*An advisor must verify your hours. An advisor is someone who oversees your volunteering.
*All hours will be due in SPRING 2022 (date to be determined).

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES:
General information on volunteer opportunities will be posted here. For DETAILS AND LINKS, please visit the NHS Schoology site. Be sure to view the 11/18/21 meeting slides for details on the following opportunities:

1. BOOK DRIVE: (Closed) Promote education and literacy in our community. Support learning by donating books for readers of all ages and appropriate genres.
2. MENTORSHIP FLIPGRIDS: (Closes 3/7) Serve our school community by creating informational videos and helping future high schoolers succeed!
3. TEACHER HELPERS: (open) Help teachers with key administrative tasks and support.
4. CARDS FOR CARE: (Closed) Creating cards for seniors, veterans, and patients in pediatric care.
5. COMMUNITY SERVICE BLOG: (Closes 3/31) Writing for the Community Service Blog is a great way to reflect on your altruistic service acts you have done this year as an NHS member!
6. INDUCTION CEREMONY SLIDES: (Closes 3/31) For new members, Induction Ceremony is coming up and we want to introduce them to the NHS community. Through these slides, you are introducing yourself and describing your volunteer experience (what you did for non-NHS hours)
7. FOOD DRIVE: (Closes 3/18) We are donating all food items to Western Fairfax Christian Ministries for people who are experiencing food insecurity and financial instability across the county. You will earn 1 hour per food item and can donate up to 3 items for a total of 3 hours.
